SHUTDOWN

INDEX

Josef Baur works in the liquidation of a shutdown paper mill, which is now awaiting its demolition. On his tour through the ramshackled halls of the factory building he remembers his thirty-year career as an electrical engineer and the eventual closure of the company. But he is not alone in the old industrial plant. A ,Lost PlacesÔ photographer has discovered it too and explores the area in search for human traces.

In the fall of 2006, the MD paper mill - by then one of the main employers in the county - announces the shutdown of the company location in Dachau, which resulted in 350 lost jobs for the area by 2007. The 17 hectare site, which once produced 270,000 tons of paper a year, now lies fallow . The area's future is uncertain.
15 people are currently working in the shutdown paper mill.
